" Maternity Leave " is the actual vacation that you took while you were pregnant, and in most business settings this is the proper expression that personnel use to describe their absence due to child birth; however, if you insist you can also say something like:

**I was on vacation for a year from work because at the time I was pregnant, and my father passed away too.
